I bought this sight after trying a Williams FP sight. It was a tough choice. The WFP was the model with the target knobs. It seemed sturdier and the knobs clicked with a jewel-like quality, but I decided that the Lyman is better suited to my little Marlin 39A. The WFP was a little too bulky for my taste. The Lyman\'s mounting \"block\" is narrower and set farther forward than the WFP, which is more ideal. (The WFP\'s lower corner actually sat atop a screw head, so it would not fit flush against the receiver unless I shaved some metal off the back of the block... and I didn\'t feel like doing that.)The Lyman also has some interesting features not found with the WFP. There\'s a release button on the Lyman that allows you to quickly remove/reinstall the top piece if you need to for whatever reason. And it has a vertical set screw, which allows you to return the sight to the correct elevation if you\'d pulled the top off. I took a few stars off for quality and workmanship though. The side plate with \"Lyman\" etc. was stamped a little crooked, with the markings partially shaved down. The sight holder--with the threaded hole---that drifts to right and left as you adjust windage is *very* crudely machined. Almost looks like it was done by hand with a file, plus the apertures (this sight comes with two kinds) screw in a little roughly. Lastly, the \"clicks\" do work, but are much more vague than with the WFP.

I have had this on a Marlin 1894 for over 5 years. It provides a quick sight picture that is precise enough for me to hold just over an inch at 50 yards.
