    Use the Lyman thermometer with my RCBS 10# pot on my Colman stove. Found this thermometer to be very accurate as test in a pot of boiling water the needle was just over the 200 deg mark right where it should be for 210 - 212 deg. One thing I noticed is when the water first started to boil it only read about 180 after letting the water come to a rolling boil it read 210 or so. Forgot to clean the stem as the instructions said to so had to use a thick rag to wipe it off as soon as I pulled it from the pot.

    I use it to make sure that no zinc wheelweights are mixed in my initial melt and use a case iron pot and the stem on this thermometer could be a little longer but seems to work well for my purposes.

    You can use almost any lead mix in a pinch but if you want performance and repeatability you need this.
